inaugural Salem 50k - December 6, 2025
We're going on ten years of hosting Angry Owl Ultramarathons in Bush Park and it's time to grow. We're using a similar blueprint to Angry Owl as far as running a looped course at Bush, but we've changed a number of variables: the weather, the loop, and the distances are all quite a bit different.
Those that know and love Angry Owl will enjoy this event, and those who are new to us will find this event to be both accessible and challenging.
Course:
The course is a 3.33km loop all within the park. It's about half asphalt and half gravel or dirt. There are two notable climbs that account for most of the 120 feet of elevation gain per loop. The Strava map is embedded at the bottom of this page, and you can view the map on Strava HERE.
50k = 15 loops
30k = 9 loops
10k = 3 loops
The start/finish is at the bottom of the soap box derby hill off of Mission Street. Please note that this is a different start/finish location than Angry Owl.
Race Day Schedule:
6:45am: 50k bib pickup
7:30am: 50k race begins
7:45am: 10k/30k bib pickup
8:30am: 10k/30k races begin
3:30pm: must begin final loop prior to 3:30pm
4:00: cutoff time for all races - 8.5 hours for 50k, 7.5 hours for 10k/30k
Aid:
We'll have a basic aid station set up just beyond the start/finish line so that you can access aid every 3.33km. We'll have water, Tailwind, PB&J, fruit, sweet snacks, salty snacks, and some limited hot food.
We DO NOT provide cups or bottles for runners. We are happy to store your cup or bottle at the aid station. Please bring your own cup or bottle.
We advise that 30k/50k runners not depend on us for your entire nutrition plan. You can depend on us for all of your water and Tailwind, but our solid food is meant to supplement the items that you bring and have used in your own training.
Swag:
We're a simple race on purpose. We emphasize the experience over the stuff. There are no big sponsors, no medals, no age-group awards, etc.
Every runner will receive this year's Salem 50k race cap made in our garage with our kids. We also aim to have a small selection of shirts and hoodies available on race day available for sale.
Weather:
Weather is likely to be cold, windy, and rainy. That said, it could be sunny with blue skies and 65 degrees or it could be icy with temps in the teens. Keep an eye on the forecasts and bring twice what you think you'll need on race day. Our start/finish area is adjacent to the parking lot, so you will have access to your vehicle every 3.33km.
Registration Fees:
Registration is exclusively on UltraSignUp HERE. There are price bumps on September 1 and November 1. Sign up earlier for the lowest registration fees. This is because we depend on early registrations in order to pay for permits and other race related items that must be paid for well before the event takes place.
If you are a member of a club or group of 10 or more runners racing, please reach out to us so that we can set you up with a discount code for your entire club. [email protected]
